ONE INSULT TOO MANY FROM BIG-MOUTH NAZRI: SARAWAK BN CONDEMNS SENIOR UMNO MAN FOR ‘GREENHORN’ INSULT
KUCHING – Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz’s dressing-down of his Sarawak counterpart over the tourism tax issue has been labelled as juvenile and not in the Barisan Nasional spirit.
Sarawak Barisan Youth chief Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said labelling the state Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah as “setahun jagung” (greenhorn) was an insult to the latter, whom the state leadership had entrusted to lead the ministry.
“As a big family under Barisan, any disagreement should be discussed amicably within the Barisan spirit and not done publicly or through the media.
“Any issue that needed clarification should be explained in a proper manner and not by insults being thrown between leaders within the same coalition,” he said in a statement Monday.
Fadillah, who is also Works Minister, added that Sarawak Barisan Youth understands that respect and solidarity among component party leaders must be upheld at all times and differences of opinion resolved through proper channels harmoniously.
Fadillah said Barisan leaders labelling each other as “gangsters” was uncalled for and reflected badly on the party.
Nazri recently chided Abdul Karim over his remarks on the implementation of the tourism tax, labelling him inexperienced and advising him not to behave “like a gangster”.
Abdul Karim had urged Putrajaya to defer the July 1 implementation of the tourism tax for Sabah and Sarawak.
He added that the Federal Government must respect the Malaysia Agreement 1963 as tourism was only federalised recently.
